Diplomat is a general term for any of the official representatives of a country or an international organization (such as the UN, European Union, or African Union) who is sent to another country to continuously manage international relations between the two countries (or between the organization and the country). The diplomat serves as an envoy on behalf of the political echelon and is entrusted with representing the interests of the sending country to the host country. The diplomat is the eyes, ears, and voice of their country, and must translate national interests and values into creating and maintaining connections abroad. Diplomats are not authorized to dictate policy, and they perform their duties according to the directives of their senders, the statesmen. However, diplomats sent to a specific country serve as a source of knowledge and expertise for their country regarding that country. (Source: Wikipedia)
