A statistician is a person who deals with statistics. Training of statisticians is done at universities, within the department of statistics, which sometimes operates within the faculty of social sciences and sometimes within the school of mathematics. Statisticians are active in universities, in teaching and research in the branches of statistics, but their main activity is in a variety of applied branches of statistics - handling national statistics within the Central Bureau of Statistics, conducting public opinion polls, conducting election samples, calculating ratings of television and radio programs, conducting actuarial calculations in insurance companies, providing statistical information to decision makers in various sectors of the economy, and more.
